These two Lawrence Arms followers decided to do a split with each other, each doing two songs. I really think it's a good match. They both have previous releases, the great Eat Your Young by Monikers and Pass the Poison by Banner Pilot, both EPs showing great potential. They both seem to be growing into their own sound and stretching away from the aforementioned Larry Arms influence. It's good to see how these two bands are coming along and how they've been progressing as a band and finding their individuality.

Geez guys, calm the fuck down. A record gets a good review and all you can talk about is who the bands should be compared to (or who you think they should be compared to). I first compared Banner Pilot to the Larry Arms, and yes I know who Jawbreaker is and like them too (and have been listening to them since before I ever heard of the Lawrence Arms). It's just the first thing that comes to mind. And also, I don't think most people outside of Minneapolis have heard of Rivethead. it's one thing to say a band sounds like the lawrence arms, it's another to say they're "lawrence arms followers." for real, like another commenter said, ever heard of rivethead, motherfucker? ever heard of discount? these kids have been playing music like this for years. jawbreaker and crimpshrine are the influences here, not the fucking lawrence arms (not that i don't like them). Both of these bands put out their first releases within the last, like, 2-3 years. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say they're both Jawbreaker and TLA fans. early TLA isn't THAT far removed from Banner Pilot stop being silly shits monikers and fake problems need to do an anti-split 7'' WTH? Banner Pilot and the Lawrence Arms sound NOTHING like each other. The Witches With Dicks album is better. It breaks my heart that they are breaking up after The Fest. FUck. Dude who runs this label is awesome!!! first off Discount was awesome, everyone in this thread needs to take it easy on the reviewer. "lawrence arms followers" Are you kidding me? not quite. To the Larry Arms fanboy and Brand New aficionado below: grow up. It's pretty obvious I'm right if 6 other people posted exactly the same thing before me within hours of this review being posted. You're spending too much time indoors on your mommy and daddy's fancy laptop; go out and buy some tampons or something. person below, what the fuck is wrong with you...eat too much shit cereal this morning? fuck off you dicklicker. Monikers are definitely NOT "Lawrence Arms followers." Their lead guitar played in Discount and has at least 5 years on any of those chumps. Their bassist played in Kite Flying Society. no one sounds like the larry arms. the larry arms sound like so many other bands. how old are you? I know they were a short term deal, but I would put Unitas up there as the best post Discount band. err, i meant the "sounds like" section... SERIOUSLY!?! lawrence arms followers?! I think the "influences" section of the Monikers' myspace page is very applicable to this reviewer. I like Banner Pilot, and don't like Lawrence Arms, so I also gotta disagree with that statement. Did you really just call these bands "Lawrence Arms followers"? you totally showed your age by comparing these bands to the lawrence arms instead of jawbreaker. Shit, I got it. |
